What Is Multimedia?
Multimedia is a form of communication that combines different content forms such as text, audio, images, animations, or video into a single presentation, in contrast to traditional mass media, such as printed material or audio recordings. Wikipedia
My Understanding about Multimedia
Multimedia from the word "multi" meaning many and "media" meaning communication channels is a form of combined media wherein you can use different content forms. Multimedia is any presentation that combines text, sound, graphics, animation, video and streaming content. Multimedia plays a very important role for us to be able to produce our works with the use of technology. In these modern age, we are far more upgraded from the past, From the things we use such as gadgets and things we do nowadays like using online platforms for us to communicate and reach others without limits.
I can see multimedia as a way for us to share our works, talents and content creations. Personally, me as a person in the modern age I am a digital literate and creative person and together with patience and hard work I can say that I can do well at using Multimedia.
Actually, I have used some social media platforms wherein I can be able to share the things that I made using Multimedia.
WeSing: I have also a Wesing account wherein I can be able to sing my favorite songs and share it to my friends. Wesing is a great app for those people who love to sing in karaoke but in their cellphones.
What is Multimedia for you?
Back then, Multimedia was not that encouraged because before technology has evolved in this generation, things were made manually or without the use of direct technology. Owning a cellphone was not that popular before, there were only keypad cp, type writers and huge TVs and PCs, Some say Gadgets before were "lowclass" unlike today numerous number of people owns a variety of gadgets with them like Tablets, Laptops, Gaming PCs, Smartwatch, Drones, Gimbals, Voice controlled AI assistant and so much more. These Kind of gadgets were really Improved. They say the gadgets today were "High Tech" that it help them almost everything in their daily needs.
When it comes to educational purposes of multimedia before ( 2004 -2015 ) works were done manually.
I started my school when I was 3 years old (2004) and as far as I can remember the Elementary school days were just normal but when we talk about normal before, It was like peaceful, harmonious and almost all the students has their focus on their studies and playing under the sun. They do not have gadgets that consumes almost all of their time. The teachers have presentation of their visual aids using Blackboards, Flashcards, chalks, and books, while the students have papers, pencils and notebooks.
I was first introduced to use ICT when I'm Grade 6
I learned how to use gadgets when I was in Grade 6 (2015). That year my father bought me a Zh&k keypad phone. What led me to have a phone is because almost all of my classmates have phones too. We use our phones for texting, watching short clip videos and playing games. I started to love playing games because my father bought his laptop back in 2010, I borrow his laptop to play games, watching educational videos and help me with my studies too, like researching into Encarta kids and Encarta kids dictionary to help me improve my vocabulary. Watching educational TV cartoon shows also helped me with my vocabularies too, shows like Zack and Quack, Paw patrol and Bubble Guppies are educational cartoon tv shows that help pupils like me before in learning.
After that, learning the use of ICT was greatly improved from Grade 7 - 10 ( Junior High )
During my Junior high days most of the students like me are ought to use their gadgets for their studies. Gadgets are used for entertainments too like listening to music, music became a trend when I am in Grade 8, we download a lot of music from the Little mix, Justin Bieber, Meghan Trainor and Chainsmokers.
I started to have interest in making and editing videos when I am in Grade 9, It is because almost all of our Performance task is video making.
In Grade 10 we used ICT a lot because this is the time when we have lots of browsing and making projects with the use of Internet, Computer Room, Cellphones and Laptops. Our Adviser taught us on how to use and apply technology in our school projects, homeworks and Group Tasks. We use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and Excel in our school projects and classroom designing . My passion in video editing continued because some of the projects in Grade 10 are needed to be passed using a video that is why more and more people come to appreciate my skills in video production.
When it comes to educational purposes of multimedia ( 2015-2021 ) works were done with the great help of Information Communications and Technology (ICT).
As a STEM student, we are also taught how to use media. We are using our phones and laptops in our daily needs with our studies and hobbies. In Grade 11 we have an ICT subject called Media and Information Technology (MIL) wherein our knowledge about technology were greatly improved. The subject taught us about designing, Media types and Information and proper use of internet (Netiquettes).
As the presence of the pandemic continues we are still in the modular approach. Today in Grade 12, We learn our studies through modules and online meetings. We have used some of the online platforms that enable us to communicate with our classmates and teacher like Messenger, zoom, Discord and Google classroom. To maintain the quality of the education we just need to focus on answering our modules and performance task properly and politely. This Pandemic also gave us a huge time and scope for learning. We have more time to search more things. On the web we can see the latest news and information.
In my observation, the huge difference between the educational purposes of Multimedia then ( Grade School ) now (Senior High School ) Is the quality and scope of learning.
What do I think is the significance of using Multimedia?
Multimedia is basically everything that we do in these modern times. In our generation, people are more intended to use multimedia because it is the form of media which copes almost everything when it comes to technology. Technology together with Multimedia makes our life more easier because of what it can offer to us. Technology became very accessible to people because almost everyone has gadgets with them like Cellphones, Computers, laptops, Tablets and more.
The standard of the Society keeps improving due it's passion inclined with multimedia. More and more people developed their interests with Multimedia, like Photography and videography. With the use of their cellphones or Cameras such as DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras they can capture and record their moments and later on, they can share their this in their social media accounts. Animations is also a form of multimedia that became popular nowadays , there are people who are good at animations which we can watch their productions in the movies, tv shows and also in TikTok and Youtube Videos. Music as a form of media is also an engaging type of multimedia which can be listened to different music streaming platforms in the web, Platforms such as Spotify, apple music, deezer and so much more. Overall, Multimedia is very significant when it comes to it's value. Because we are living in the modern times a lot of people loves to get intact with the use of multimedia, to give ease and innovation with their content creations.
